About the music

Elden Kelly combines jazz with a broad range of global music traditions. He sings and plays the Glissentar, an electric 11-string fretless guitar that can sound like an oud, saz, cumbus or tar. His style, while based in the traditions of both Arabic and Turkish music, is a delightful contemporary fusion that carries the music forward for today’s audiences. Balancing virtuosity and soulfulness, Kelly will take you on a musical journey to reimagined homelands. He will be joined by Carolyn Koebel on darabuka, cajon, kalimba, frame drums and numerous magical, musical devices.

Carolyn & Elden will perform their music in the first half, and in the second half you can join in for a participatory session with Elden, Carolyn and the Trybal Revival Circle Singers.

 Directions & Parking

From downtown Kalamazoo, follow Michigan Avenue east. Just after the King Highway turnoff get in the right lane and stay right as you pass under the viaduct (you are still on E. Michigan Ave). Straight through light at E. Main, continuing on E. Michigan — we’re in the next block on the left just past the community garden — look for yellow house with grey fence. Unlimited street parking available on E. Michigan Avenue. Use the arbor entrance  from E. Michigan to house.
